Things have actually been looking better with my new cat Baylee moving in with us following the tragic death of my brother who was his former owner. I have a 14 year old beauty who is a bit over weight to say the least and timid but she stands up to Baylee anytime. Baylee was a previously abused cat at a shelter. But, he had come a long way. I walked in the door this morning to find cashmere and Baylee sitting right next to each other. Previous to this I had only seen and heard Baylee growl at cashmere who is twice the size and age.
I have become increasingly more worried thought as Baylee has been responding to small noises he hears. He immediately jumps into defense mode. This is quite possibly due to him trying to protect his territory downstairs while cashmere spent more time up stairs, but this morning I found cashmere walking around the bottom floor and drinker his water, eating his food. It appears there are some territory issues and his increased alertness has affected myself and wife.
Baylee attached my wife last night latching onto her arm, drawing blood. She was scared to say the least. I have always reminded her that this is still a process of adaptation and ground wars between the cats and Baylee the young and restless of the two will attack.
When cashmere goes back upstairs you can see Baylee turn his head, look up stairs and go follow. They are horsing around with each other, however as humans we need to understand they are still animals adjusting to a new habitat.
For now, we know Baylee has his shots and all, but we need to be aware that Baylee is still new to this household, is from a feral cat lineage and needs to adjust to her new home.
